Two members of Congress, Rep. Ted Lieu and Sen. Ed Markey, have proposed\u00a0<b>urgent legislation to prevent the U.S. president from starting a nuclear war without a declaration of war by Congress.<\/b><\/p>\n<h4><b><a href=\"http:\/\/org.salsalabs.com\/o\/696\/p\/dia\/action4\/common\/public\/?action_KEY=21818\" class=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sign our petition today, sending a message to Congress urging their support of HR 669\/S200<\/a><\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Please also call your members of the House and Senate at the Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121 (the operator will help you find your reps if you don&#8217;t already know).\u00a0 Urge them to &#8220;support and co-sponsor Bills HR 669\/S200, the <i>Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act of 2017<\/i>.&#8221;\u00a0 Once you have called, <a href=\"https:\/\/peacealliance.org\/congress-call-thank-you\/\">click here <\/a>so we can track progress.<\/p>\n<p>The terrifying power of a system built for speed and mass destruction is currently at the president&#8217;s sole discretion. We all are aware of how dangerous it is to let any one person have the unchecked power to destroy the entire world with the push of a button.<\/p>\n<p><b>Call on Congress to support HR 669\/S 200<\/b><b> keep us safe by making it illegal for any President start a nuclear war.
